FAQs

  • I’ve been a printmaker for 17 years. I took my first printmaking class at Central Michigan University with Johanna Paas in 2008, and after that class, I was hooked. I switched majors and got my BFA in printmaking in 2012. Long story short, I moved to Lexington, KY, worked out of the Bluegrass Printmaking Cooperative, then got my MFA from the University of Kentucky in 2018. Now I’m making prints in Nashville, TN, in my personal studio.

  • Honestly, it all depends. The design process is typically the longest and can range from a couple of hours to a couple of weeks. Sometimes I know exactly what I want a print to look like before I even start, but most of the time I start with an idea, and it evolves along the way. This makes the process take a lot longer since I'm exploring as I go. The average is probably about 2-4 days, and maybe longer if I don’t know where the print is going when I start.

Then comes printing. Each layer is printed separately from separate blocks, so the more layers, the longer it takes. A single layer takes about 5 hours to do a run of 100 prints, and then the layers are left to dry for at least 2 days in between layers so the oil can dry.

All that to say, a typical 2-3 layer print probably takes 1-2 weeks.

  • Honestly, I’ve never really done commissions, but if you have a project that you think would be interesting to work on together, let me know.

  • Short Answer: No. All of my prints are hand-drawn or hand-carved at a 1-to-1 scale. So they are exactly the size they are, no bigger, no smaller. To make them larger or smaller would require drawing a new film or carving a new block.
